Tuesday 19th May - Multiplication
Yesterday you looked at division, today you are going to remind yourself about multiplication. Lots of you will be able to recall your 2, 5 and 10 x table by now, but we also need to know how to work out trickier times tables. One method we use is through repeated addition, so 3 x 4 means 3 lots of 4 which means 4 + 4 + 4 or 4 lots of 3 which means 3 + 3 + 3 + 3. If you don't have a printer write down some x calculations for you child, if they don't know off the top of their head, encourage them to use the repeated addition method. Those with a printer can also access the worksheet that is attached.
Wednesday 20th May - Maths (Multiplication)
Today I would like you to continue thinking about multiplication. Lots of you have been using your TT Rockstars account to work on your 2, 5, 10 x tables. However we still need to be able to multiply two single digit numbers together. For example 4 x 4. I would like you to use arrays to help you solve some trickier multiplications. You can write your own down, use a random number generator like a dice to write a list of your own sums. If you can print the sheet there is an activity based around arrays There is a video to demonstrate what an array is but we use the language rows & columns to help the understand this concept. E.g 4 x 4 is 4 rows & 4 in each row (making 4 columns).
Friday 22nd May - Maths (Multiplication & Division)
Can you complete the assessment booklet on the areas we've recapped on this week? If you do not have a printer - write down some calculations for you children. Encourage them to use which method suits them, it could be a mental strategy, arrays (rows & columns) grouping, sharing out, repeated addition.
