Spring Term Topic - This is me!
Spring 2 - Where am I from? Based on Grace and Family by Mary Hoffman
This half term's topic is Where am I from? We use Grace and Family as a stimulus for learning and discuss how all families are different and that is ok, no family is right or wrong.
In literacy we will re-tell the story of Grace and Family and then innovate the story using the 'Talk for Writing' approach we take each half term, using picture prompts and a text map.
In science we focus on our senses and look at all the variations there are in people around the world. Everyone is different and everyone is special. As part of our PSHE we will also be doing the topic of 'Healthy Me' and thinking about what it means to lead a healthy life.
This half term we focus again on Africa in our geography, but we look a little more closely at comparing the UK and The Gambia. We will re-visit the human and physical features of these landscapes and write post cards from 'Grace' to demonstrate what we have learned about The Gambia, as well write post cards to The Gambia, to tell people there all about where we live as well.
We hope to visit Hucknall Market and compare the markets in both places as well as a trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park, to see the African animals to support last term's topic on animals and study the herbivores, carnivores and omnivores!
