Summer Term - Escape to the country!
Summer 1 - What's in the Pond? Based on The Ugly Duckling by Hans Christian Andersen
This half term's topic is based around Hans Christian Andersen's The Ugly Duckling. We will re-tell the story and innovate the story to make it our own. We discuss the meaning behind the story and think about acceptance and belonging.
We will be taking a look at pond life in general, but more specifically amphibians, as well as focusing on the parts of plants and trees and the lifecycle of a sunflower.
Our geography focus this half term is reviewing our knowledge and understanding of human and physical features as well as looking a little more closely at the land uses in the United Kingdom. So we will be comparing coastal, urban and countryside areas of our country. We will be learning some mapping skills, such as co-ordinates, keys and why the directions of a compass are so useful!
Our enrichment trip for this summer will now be either Rufford Park or Sherwood Pines, where we will focus on it's human and physical features and draw our own map of the park. We will then use these skills to create our own map of our school for any new visitors!
