Our English text this half term takes to a museum, where we meet losts of interesting characters and this text is our stimulus to finding out about life for the children in 1940's Britain.

This half term we have a history focus, where we  will be finding out what life in 1940's Britain would have been like for children of our age. 

Our main focus is on the children of this time, in order for our children to relate to this and make comparisons to their own lives.   Our primary historical objective is to identify similarities and differences between ways of life in a different period, so we will focus on areas such as; home, school, food / rationing and being evacuated to the countryside.  

We touch upon the very basics of the war and simply give the reason of one country wanting more power over others and this is discussed in terms of our British Values and Freedom.  We talk about evacuating the big cities for the countryside and how at a time of need people pull together to support, nurture and accept others as a global community. 

This topic has always been poignant to our school as we have had refugees from other parts of the world in the past and is current with the situation the world now finds itself with the struggles in Ukraine.  We use the values of acceptance and responsibility to teach the children the importance of caring for others.
